The Alberta Premium story
The story begins with two sons of the Canadian west, Frank McMahon and Max Bell. They hired expert brewmaster George Reifel and working with the community of farmers and ranchers, they opened their doors in 1950.
This whisky is Alberta Premium
A great whisky that needed little marketing. And a whisky that the distillery shared with its community.
A whisky with multiple strands of relevance: The award-winning gold standard of rye whiskies. The world's No.1 selling 100% rye whisky.
A whisky from a place of space, light, freedom. A place synonymous with opening up and unwinding.

100% Rye Grain
The signature of Canadian whisky. Rye whisky has a character which simply cannot be duplicated. We believe no other grain in the world of distillation can replicate the flavour profile and unique complexities that the rye grain imparts to whisky.
BARRELS
Charred, new oak barrels are alive with caramel, vanilla, and tannins, which contribute to bourbon’s ability to mature relatively quickly. Another reason bourbon ages more rapidly than other whisky is climate. Hot days and cold nights in Kentucky foster interaction between the liquid and the charred barrel staves. The whiskey absorbs these tannins, vanilla, and caramel flavors as it works its way in and out of the barrels layer of toast or char. When you pour spirit into a barrel that’s had the tannins, sugars, and vanillins leached out, what’s left are secondary flavors coming from the lignin in the wood, such as rye spices, fruit, and floral notes. That’s what the Canadians are looking for, which can only be attained with a used barrel.

WAREHOUSE
The place where spirit takes the long sleep and the angels get their share.
Spirit is aged for a minimum of 3 years in small wood in order to comply with Canadian Whisky Regulations.
There are a total of 21 warehouses (10 pallet and 11 rack) on site containing a maximum of 500,000 barrels.
